Session Start: Sat Feb 21 16:56:22 2009 Session Ident: #castlevania * Logging for #castlevania started [The intrepid party finds itself locked in mortal combat with the Damacine Golem itself under the city of the dead. Do they stand a chance against this ancient horror? Only if their friends return from Stavograd in time!] * Nyyx , as of last session, was running around avoiding direct combat while waiting for her companions to return from Stavograd. Now would be a great time for someone to reveal their secret backup plan to destroy the golem by dropping a city on top of it. Do I look like I can pick up a city/ * Nyyx continues to avoid the golem. "Wouldn't that be nice?" * Skip continues to dodge and jump around like a flea escaping the giant paw of waggling doom. "Is there no way to stop it?!" Well, maybe you could find the big red button that transforms the whole city into a giant golem. Is there such a button? How was this one made? And who made it? Maybe they know how to destroy it! Lady Natalia, you should turn into a flock of bats and blind it with your wings. * Nyyx thinks for a moment. "I...well, if I can do that, I haven't figured out how yet." Not feeling a sudden jump forward in ability coming on, then? Unfortunately, no. I could throw my cloak in its face, but I doubt it'd have much effect. How about a pack of dire wolves? Summoned, mind, not changed into. * Nyyx shakes her head. "Maybe the blood's too dilute." Anything we can drop this thing into where it can't get out? [The Golem stomps down trying to kill the summoned scorpion and manages to crush it badly.] well, maybe if we had a really big bag of holding and a really big portable hole. * Nyyx is now known as Nyyxfeed Maybe we can trap it somehow else... any way to keep it from leaving this room? [The golem steps forward and jumps off of the vault. As it does so, the scorpion ineffectually scrapes at it. The Golem lands on the stone below and begins walking toward the western wall of the chamber.] [The Golem strides over to the western wall and places its right hand on the stone. With a shimmer, a large section of the wall melts away into mud around the abomination's feet, leaving a clean archway above and exposing several floors of chambers beyond the wall.] So much for locking it in. Golem: "My apologies, but I have business above." Why? [The Golem doesn't answer and instead started grinding its way through the exposed floors toward the west.] [After several minutes of this racket, the party begins to hear deafening thuds from the west and the sound of crashing stone.] * Nyyxfeed is now known as Nyyx H.E.R.: "Any ideas?" [He takes a ring out of his pocket and concentrates for a moment.] throw a rock at it. I guess we better unload with everything we've got * Nyyx frowns. "They're not back yet." I guess we can hold off a little longer... [Nyyx picks up a chunk of stone from the edge of the vault chamber and flings it toward the behemoth, missing widely.] * Nyyx sighs. I think you need a bigger rock. Or better aim. H.E.R.: "Most of our remaining forces are withdrawing to the top of the central tower. The Boccobite Contact is there with Lydia. It sounds like he shut down at about the same time the Golem woke up." What's the connection? H.E.R.: "Well, that fool used a piece of the Golem to build his new body, so there's that. Bet it's biting him in the ass." * Nyyx winces. "I'd forgotten about that." Shoot. [Over in the passage that the Golem is carving out, the party can now see sunlight streaming in.] My Contact clearly did not think his clever plan all the way through. * Nyyx picks up a bigger rock, throws, and misses again. [With a bound, the Golem lands on the pile of rubble created in its excavations and then leaps for the surface, landing with its top half spread over the pavement and his legs still visible to the party in the midday light.] * Nyyx frowns and flies after the golem. * Nyyx jumps in mid-air and swings her sword, hard, at one of the golem's flailing legs. [The blade strikes and sparks along one of the Golem's legs, leaving a deep cut in the metal.] [The Golem climbs the rest of the way out of the ground and stands to its full height looking down the chasms at Nyyx imperiously.] Golem: "VERMIN!" [Mechanical spiders ring the gap and they and the Golem bathe the chasm in shadows.] that's probably bad. I'm willing to bet that. * Nyyx takes another leap-and-swing at the golem, but her blade glances off its armor. * Skip flies up after the golem. Emerging from the hole, he examines the area. "Are you all right, Nyyx!?" [The Golem points his left hand at Nyyx palm forward and five missles of force expel outward and strike her in midair. Afterward, the Golem strides toward the tower and out of sight.] * Roland whips a hand towards Nyyx and an answering dart slams into her from the other direction, making it all better. * Nyyx grunts as she's pummeled by the missiles, but after Roland's help, she looks barely scratched. "Still standing." I should certainly hope so. * Roland lets himself be carried along by a friendly air elemental. * Charlotte runs and fires a couple arrows, but they can't punch through the golem. * Nyyx jets off after the golem, and once she catches up, slashes into it with an incisive precision strike. * Skip continues his flight toward the brawl. H.E.R.: "What in the hell are they doing going after it alone in the open like that!" [H.E.R. takes to the air with a blur of speed. He flies out of the chasm and flies level with Skip.] [As Nyyx and Skip burst from the chasm, they notice that hundreds of spiders are still collected near the breach in the street and around the tower. Most of the fighting around the tower appears to have stopped however as no offensive fire can now be seen.] [Dozens of the spiders have begun scaling the near vertical walls of the tower and are working their ways skyward.] [The Golem itself strides to the edge of the wall and places a hand on his chest. At this, several of his damaged areas appear to knit back together and several spiders leap from the wall and street to climb on along the Golem.] * Nyyx continues to pursue the golem. She hurtles toward it with another leap attack, but again, she's foiled by its thick armor. [Charlotte finds herself largely left behind in the battle with no flight and no spotter for her attacks.] Agh. * Charlotte kicks a rock in frustration [The Golem begins climbing the wall of the central tower. Numberless spiders follow suit, climbing the wall and hitching a ride on the monster.] * Nyyx continues to harass the golem ineffectually. * Nyyx changes plans and shoots for the top of the tower. I need a way out of here! eh? Oh. Why didn't someone Fly you? [Skip and His Emminent Remains follow Nyyx as she flies up the side of the tower, leaving the Golem in the dust.] I don't know. * Roland sets himself down, snaps his fingers, and an air elemental scoops Charlotte up in its arms. Up up and away, or something. Thanks! [Trailing behind, Charlotte and Roland float up and out of the pit appearing for all to see as the laziest adventures ever to get anything done.] [As the spider horde and the Golem continue to climb the central tower, the party reaches the summit with the swarm only minute or so behind.] * Roland strolls along down the street towards the tower, sipping at his drink. [The party flies between the columns holding up the roof and find themselves before the two great doors leading into the audience chamber where they met His Emminent Remains upon entering Lifebreak. The handful of remaining guards watch the approaching horde scaling the wall from the railing. Many have wands aimed in anticipation.] * Nyyx heads straight for the doors and attempts to get inside. * Charlotte flies along with the air elemental and fires off arrows! One of them hits and knocks off several spiders [Nyyx lands and runs up to the great doors. None of the guards get in her way as she shoulders them open.] * Nyyx scans the room for the Boccobite Contact. [Skip and H.E.R. land just as she steps over the threshold with Charlotte and Roland bringing up the rear.] [The chamber is much how she left it last, but the people within are far different, provided that the term ever applied. The Boccobite Contact sits in the center of the room unmoving. The remaining Boccobites are arrayed around him, ready for combat and alight with defensive magic.] [Further out, the surviving Nerull clergy are centered near the thrones with Lydia. All of them are horribly changed. Several are wounded or even missing limbs and all now have demonic features. Whether beards of iron whiskers, a nimbus of flame or in the case of Lydia, great blackbird wings, all are marked by the Pit.] [Lydia turns toward Nyyx as she enters.] Lydia: "I'm surprised you made it back. He's almost here. Wouldn't happen to have a plan, would you?" * Roland looks down at his wrist. "It's handled." We're attempting one, but some of us aren't back from the crucial part. Stupid golem... They should be back any time now. [Behind her, H.E.R., Roland, Charlotte and Skip are run into the chamber. H.E.R. runs up to Lydia and they whisper together for a moment.] [Lydia nods and H.E.R. backs away a few steps.] H.E.R.: "What is wrong with the Contact? We should evacuate while we can." Lydia: "He is not mobile. Not only will he not move, but we can't move him. Might have some of those damn rods incorporated. Once we got your message, we retreated up here.] " Lydia: "The Contact is not totally lucid, but he 's talking. The Golem is coming for him. If he can incorporate the Contact, he will have the powers of dozens of priests and mages, centuries of knowledge, regenerative and lightning abilities and will know the inner workings of the Seven Temples better than anyone outside of the Chorus." Lydia: "We stop the Golem here or we are done." Can we extricate the part of the Golem the Contact merged with? Lydia: "I don't know. His servants only told us what he did once he fell ill. I don't think they understand it very well.] [Through the open doors, the party can hear the guards firing arrows and spells down on the approaching horde. Thirty seconds left before they reach the summit.] * Nyyx grits her teeth in frustration. "Would you let us destroy the Contact if that would remove the danger of the golem merging with him?" There's gotta be another way... any big fancy weapons around here? [END OF SESSION.] Session Close: Sat Feb 21 23:54:20 2009
