* Logging for #castlevania started
<Holmes> [The intrepid party finds itself in combat under the streets
of the city of Lifebreak.  A horrid amalgam of beast and treasure
ship looms before them, ready to drag them beneath the waters of the
underground reservoir while lacedons circle for the kill.]
<Holmes> [The creature before the party has lifted itself mostly out
of the water by grasping on the walkways overhead.  The creature's
gaping maw sits amid ten tentacles dozens of feet in length.  The
mast of a treasure ship is grafted to the creature's head and is
facing the party.  The entire creature is run through with veins of
gold and silver.]
<Holmes> [Skip, Nyyx and Olivia are near the center of the room on a
walkway over the reservoir.  The rest of the party is at the end of
the chamber farthest from the lacedons, who are running the perimeter
of the chamber to intercept the party.]
<Holmes> [Water pours from breaches in the creature's hull as it
rises, ready to consume the party.]
* Nyyx says to Olivia quietly, "I have an idea. Can you help me tie
that rope around me? I might be able to get at this thing from the
raft down there."
* Olivia looks up over at her, and half-smiles as she brushes a bit
of hair off her face. "All that work to get me up here, and you want
to go back down there?" She pulls the free part of the rope up into
her hands, and then steps close to loop it around her. "But I'm glad
I'm not the only one with a sense of adventure. Want me to keep it
anchored here?"
<Nyyx> Yes, please, at least for now.
* Olivia finishes the tie, gives her a wink and goes, "Good to go.
Lemme know if you need me to get down there." And then she fades from
Nyyx's vision.
<Nyyx> Thanks, Olivia!
* Nyyx fixes her eye on the raft floating in the reservoir below, and
she takes a dive off the side of the walkway. Cloak, white hair, and
rope streaming behind her, she makes a graceful flip in midair,
bringing the adamantine bastard sword out in an overhand swing that
slits the beast's skin all the way down as she falls.
* Nyyx lands in a crouch on the raft and grins at the monster.
<Holmes> [The monster screams in rage as the sword glides through it.
At the other end of the room, the ghouls continue to advance on the
party along the water's edge.  Those that jumped into the reservoir
cannot be seen.]
<Holmes> [The masthead screams: "Welcome to the water's edge, little
killer!" and several of the creature's tentacles come after Nyyx.
The several more flex as the creature continues to rise out of the
water.]
<Holmes> [The tentacles buffet Nyyx about and the last one snares her
about the waist.]
<Holmes> [The last two of the beast's tentacles drop into the water
behind it.]
<Holmes> [The masthead points at the crowd and four force missles
streak forth.  One after Biff and Charlotte and two after Theodore.]
<Demota> Gah!
* Biff winces. "Okay, enough with the can't miss attacks already, you
goob."
<Charlotte> Gah!
* Biff waves paw and tail in a surprisingly elaborate dance, then
leaps up and over the walkway's railing, down onto Nyyx's shoulder,
covering her with a slippery white glow that quickly disperses.
<Biff> Try to keep yourself outta trouble this time, eh, toots?
* Biff turns, levels the Kitty Kannon at the walkway the lacedons are
rushing along, and fills the walkway ahead of them with a five foot
block of walnut wood.
<Holmes> [Nyyx slides free of the monster's tentacle.]
* Nyyx slips free. "Biff, remind me to get you all the fresh fish you
can eat the next time we're in town."
<Biff> You might want to take that back, toots, I can eat an awful
lot of fish.
* Nyyx laughs. "Unless you have a dimensional pocket for a stomach,
I'm sure I can handle that."
<Biff> I once ate a whole shark, fins and all.  Shark fin soup isn't
all it's cracked up to be!
<Nyyx> We'll get you something better this time, then.
<Biff> Deal!
* Theodore casts Chain Lightning at the squid and its tentacles, and
a quickened Snowball Swarm at 9 lacedons
* Charlotte stands her ground and fires off a pair of arrows at the
lacedons.
* Charlotte manages to drop one. It crumples to the ground in a heap.
The other is wounded by the arrow
* Olivia invisibly but for the viewers judges the beast's movement a
moment, backs up, and then takes a flying leap onto the wooden part
of the ship. She grabs onto it with her hands and peers inside a
moment.
<Holmes> [The interior of the ship terminates in the open flesh of
the squid after about five or so feet.  There is just enough room in
the gap for a person to stand.  The flesh inside is riddled with
metal and shinning objects and looks downright cancerous.]
* Olivia makes a face, then moves inside to find the nearest
magic-looking item and claim it for herself.
* Nyyx doesn't waste any time in whirling into action, taking two
quick swipes that carve out a pair of meaty chunks from the squid's
lower body.
* Nyyx says to Biff, "I imagine you wouldn't opt for squid?"
<Biff> Squid takes too much work to eat.
<Holmes> [The ghouls on the walkway around the base of the chamber
scramble over the wooden barricades and continue toward the party.
They are now only about 20' from the party's end of the chamber.  On
the bright side, the barricades caused them to bunch up.]
<Holmes> [The two tentacles in the water emerge with lacedons
clinging to them and fling the monsters toward the far end of the
chamber and the party...]
<Holmes> [Two lacedons land in the tunnel occupied by Theodore,
Charlotte and Skip in point blank range, snarling.  Two others impact
the wall below and right themselves.]
<Holmes> [Four of the tentacles lash out at Nyyx, missing due to the
displacement.]
<Holmes> [The masthead screams: "Enough of this!"  The squid's form
shimmers for a second and takes on a slight hazing at the edges.]
<Biff> No, I don't think this is nearly enough, pal.
<Biff> And baby... you ain't seen NOTHING yet!
* Biff takes a flying leap off the squid, and in midair, a pair of
massive feathery wings sprout from his back, spread wide, and launch
a volley of missiles in every direction, tearing a hole into the side
of the squid and vaporising half a dozen lacedons in an instant. A
moment later, he touches down on the walkway and the wings fold
silently back under his pack.
* Theodore takes a 5' step back and carefully aims a cone of cold,
killing 5 lacedons and injuring the squid and 2 more lacedons
* Charlotte leaps back from the beast before her, drawing an arrow as
she steps back. She raises her bow and fires as she comes to a stop.
The arrow sinks into her target's head and bursts into acid,rapidly
puttingthe creature out of commission.
* Olivia apperas atop the cancerous stuff with a flat expression, a
gleaming glowing knife in one hand, as she cuts into the mass with
precision to remove two of the wands, one of the necklaces, and
probably also releasing some sort of ew.
<Holmes> [The wands and necklace trail fibers of precious metal as
they exit the body.  The squid roars.]
* Nyyx continues her rigorous assault on the monster's body,
excavating another two large gobs of squid flesh and sending them
flying over her shoulder.
<Holmes> [The two lacedons on the lower level turn and rush Biff, who
explodes in a swarm of identical devil kitties.  The ghouls,
confused, try to wreck two of the fakes.]
* Biff cackles. "Man, I NEVER get tired of this spell!"
<Biff> Theo, buddy, you GOTTA learn this! 
<Holmes> [The last lacedon attacks Charlotte and lands a solid hit.
Charlotte manages to resist the corruption of the ghoul and keeps
from being paralyzed.]
<Charlotte> Hey!
<Holmes> [The masthead launches a volley of force missles at Biff,
cooking off four more fakes as the squid releases the walkway.  The
metal creaks and grinds as the tentacles slide free.  The bulky mass
falls into the water, trying to swamp Nyyx and Biff.  Both keep from
going under the water and Nyyx weathers a barrage of attacks from the
squid.]
<Biff> WHAT THE HELL.  WHAT THE HELL.  YOU GOT ME WET, BASTARD.
* Nyyx grunts as she lands on her back on the raft and gets slapped
with two hits from the thing's tentacles.
* Biff hangs himself down off the walkway by his claws, aiming the
Kitty Kannon down at the squid, and unleashes a blast of lightning
into its upper bits, gouging out a new hole.
<Holmes> Theodore drops a series of force missiles into the ghoul
that struck Charlotte, killing it.  Again.
* Charlotte darts aback and fire sa couple arrows, but neither can
penetrate the big creature's defenses
* Olivia coninues cutting, pulling a bracer free. She mutters to
herself, "Nobody said it was clean work."
<Holmes> [The squid shudders as Olivia works.  More metal trails the
bracer and the flesh around the wound is squirming.]
* Nyyx gets to her feet, stumbling a bit as she takes a hit from a
tentacle in the process. She eyes the hole she's been digging in its
body and blurs forward in a second, plunging her blade into an
especially vulnerable portion of the slimy mess.
<Holmes> [The monster howls once and sinks beneath the water.]
<Holmes> [The pocket occupied by Olivia quickly fills with brackish
water.]
<Nyyx> Damn. I don't think I killed it.
<Biff> Nope.  You can go under after it, Nyyx.
<Biff> My magic'll hold.
* Biff casts on himself, this time, covering himself in the
shimmering white aura, then takes a deep breath and dives into the
water from several stories up.
* Nyyx nods.
* Charlotte looks down at the water. "I don't think myarrows are
going to get far..."
<Charlotte> I'll... try to keep an eye on the raft. 
* Charlotte gets over onto it and gets to work untying Nyyx
<Nyyx> Thanks, Charlotte!
* Charlotte works on securing the raft
* Olivia has water rush upon her quickly. Her eyes widen for a moment
and she shifts her grip on her dagger, bracing her feet against the
upper hull so she's not sucked out with the pressure. And then she
looks at it a moment, before lashing out to stab downward into the
mass, burying her dagger in the thing up to her elbow with a
determined look.
<Holmes> [The squid shakes violently once and then is still.  It
drifts lazily about the bottom of the reservoir.  The wound Olivia
made continues to squirm.]
* Olivia extricates her arm with a roll of the eyes, and then looks
to the other things she's got to free with annoyance on her face,
before starting to cut into them as well. She can't actually be sure
it's dead either, although her lack of being crushed is a good
indicator.
* Nyyx takes a deep breath and dives off the raft into the reservoir.
* Biff continues swimming down, turning on the lights as he goes, and
thanks his lucky stars he picked up all these wonderful toys since he
met Nyyx.
* Charlotte looks down at the water, and probably can't see all too
well what's going on down there
* Biff makes good use of his wonderful toys by directing Olivia to
all the places she needs to cut.
* Olivia looks over at Biff the glowing cat, manages a weak smile,
then goes back to her work.
* Olivia gets some hacking done, looks over at Biff, points up, and
then kicks up that way as fast as she can. She breaks the surface
with a loud gasp, which makes her visible to Charlotte!
<Charlotte> Gah!
<Charlotte> What happened down there?
* Olivia pulls herself up on the raft and continues taking deep
breaths. "Managed to stab it to death... or at least it's not moving
any more." She looks down at the water a moment, then says, "It had
magic items buried in its flesh, I was cutting them out before. Biff
and Nyyx are still down there, and so's some more stuff."
* Olivia pulls off her pack and rests it on the raft. "Don't lose
this, okay?"
<Charlotte> Uh.. right!
* Olivia half-smiles and says, "I'll try to bring back something
pretty for you." And then she dives over the edge, going back down
for some more underwater surgery. ER was never this exciting.
* Olivia gets back down to Biff and resumes working.
<Holmes> [The trio continues to work for several minutes with Nyyx
and Olivia periodically rising for air.  Eventually, one side of the
treasure chest comes free with an assortment of gold coins and
jewelery.  Olivia hacks the other half of the chest, now broken and
splintered, out of the flesh with no little effort.]
<Holmes> [All of this treasure is very heavy and it will be difficult
for the trio to swim with it.]
* Biff just grabs ahold of his ladies and teleports everybody back to
the surface, on one of the walkways.
* Charlotte waves
* Biff whips out a tiny wand and uses the ultimate in convenience
magic to slough the water right off him and his ladies.
* Olivia waves back at Charlotte as the water sloughs off her,
flashing one of the many pieces of jewelry they got at her. Victory
with shinines. The best kind.
<Biff> How the hell are we gonna get that boat outta there, toots?
<Biff> I got no freakin clue.
<Holmes> [End of Session.]
