Session Start: Sat May 10 18:19:02 2008 Session Ident: #castlevania * Logging for #castlevania started [The intrepid party has stopped for the night in the House of Secrets, sacred city of Wee Jas, and is deciding what to do as night begins to fall.] * Nyyx watches Biff eat his fish and chats with Amarette in the meantime. "How familiar are you with the jungle environment?" Amarette: "It is still a ways south of here. I am familiar enough to know that we would normally want to stay clear of it. It would be dangerous under normal circumstances." * Biff munches happily on fish guts. * Nyyx nods. "I can't imagine it'd be less dangerous now that Gregor's in the area." * Biff raises his head out of the fish and says "iff dangrs now" What he said. * Biff grabs another bite of delicious fish innards. I assume things are pretty different now, considering that you've never seen any of those combination creatures before. Should get a spell to kill trees. Before the great battle and the plague, the biggest dangers in the jungle were the wild cats and the strangling vines. Afterward, it was a place of nightmares. Those things we saw in the marsh are just the beginning. Strangling vines? It sounds like a fun place already. fft. DEFINITELY need a spell to kill trees. Maybe theo has one? * Biff pokes Theo in the leg with a claw. * Nyyx glances over at Theodore. "Do you?" Does fire count? * Nyyx chuckles. I suppose fire works. * Demota is now known as Charlotte No. Jungles don't tend to burn so well, do they? Well, it might be a bit wet. Besides, burning down the jungle while we're in it doesn't seem very bright. That stuff spreads fast True, but if it doesn't catch fire easily, it might not be so bad. Where would you learn something to take care of any, ah, hostile plant life, anyway? ...we ARE in the house of the Lady of Secrets, who happens to have dominion over magic. We're in the right place, then. Amarette, do you know of anyone who might be willing to share that sort of knowledge with us? Amarette: "Good point. I'm sure someone would sell us the incantation." Amarette: "I'd know a few shops to try." Would they be open at this hour? I could open them, if you want. * Nyyx laughs. "I'm not sure they'd like that." Oh, I'm sure they wouldn't. * Biff whistles a little, then takes a big bite of fish. Amarette: "It would be best to wait until morning." * Nyyx nods. "First thing tomorrow, then." It'd be nice to get some rest. I dunno about you, but I'm plenty rested. * Biff finishes off the last of the useful bits of the fish. * Nyyx gets up. "I'm heading up to rest. See you in the morning." Me too. Nigght Hey, don't lock me out! * Biff scrambles after Nyyx.' * Nyyx scoops up Biff and sets him on her shoulder as she climbs the stairs. [The party heads off to their rooms at The Best Kept Secret, a small and cozy tavern.] [After several hours of rest, Skip, Charlotte and Biff hear some arguing outside in front of the tavern.] * Skip tries to get a view of the source of the commotion by looking out his window. * Biff hops up to the windowsill for a look. What is it? * Nyyx doesn't seem to have heard anything. [Biff and Skip see Amarette and a shadowy figure standing in the street.] * Biff watches carefully, ready to intervene at a moment's notice. * Nyyx gets up sleepily and follows Biff to the window. [Amarette and the figure are clearly arguing, but they are too far away to make anything out. Otherwise, the street is deserted.] * Nyyx whispers to Biff, "...Is that Amarette?" * Biff whispers back, "yeah" Who's that she's arguing with? dunno Hm. I hope there isn't any trouble. if there is, that guy's my bitch i'm ready trust me * Nyyx nods. "Be my guest. He can be your thumbs." * Skip slowly unlatches his window, then, spider-like, climbs out and onto the rooftop. He moves on all fours and tries to get close enough to hear the argument. [Flat against the black slate shingles on the roof, Skip listens in...] Amarette: "They have not do anything wrong. We have some preparations to make and we are leaving in the morning." Can you hear them, Biff? I can't make out whatever it is they're fighting over. Figure: "We know you have left the favor of our Mistress." nothing * Nyyx nods. "I'd open the window, but I'd rather not catch their attention." Figure: "The Rose Matel has convened and named you Outcast, Amarette. You have no right to be here." Amarette: "The Chorus can do as it wishes. I still honor the Mistress. Though you might not, if you knew what she has done." back in a minute, babe Sure. * Nyyx sits tight and continues to watch. * Biff incants a spell in the blink of an eye, steps through the pane of the window, and makes his way stealthily towards the pair. * Nyyx is now known as NyyxFeed * Skip is now known as SkipFOOOOOOD * NyyxFeed is now known as Nyyx Figure: "You!" [The figure lashes out at Amarette with inhuman swiftness. In an instant, the figure's hand is around the young cleric's throat.] * Biff acts in an instant, howling like a cat in full rutt as he casts a spell. * Nyyx smashes the window and jumps out to the street. * Biff reaches out telepathically and makes the man release Amarette. * Biff walks over calmly and hops up into the man's waiting arms. * Nyyx runs toward them. "Amarette, are you all right?" * Biff looks up at Amarette and grins to make the Cheshire Cat envious. "What, no thanks for the kitty, toots?" [Rather than a man, Biff leaps into the arms of a woman in a long black dress wearing a white stone mask. The woman is cold to the touch.] Oh, hey. It's a dame. I coulda swore this was a guy, but hey, a dame is fine, too. * Nyyx walks up to the woman and studies her. "Do you recognize her at all?" I need a name for my new pet. What do you think of Tattykins? Amarette: "She is an agent of the Rose Matel, the Chorus of Wee Jas." Not anymore, she's not. Does she still need that mask? Amarette: "I do not know. As might be expected, the Chorus is quite secretive." How long is she under your control, Biff? * Skip moves around the rooftop, looking for any sign of movement from the surrounding streets and alleyways. technically, the spell ends in ten days or so. But really, the answer is "as long as I want" * Nyyx raises her eyebrows. "Well, then." Gimme a couple days and I'll have this dame so wrapped up in enchantments it would take an act of a god to get her free. * Nyyx smirks. Could you ask her to take off that mask for a moment? I'd like to see her face. Sure thing. * Biff makes it so. [The woman peels back the stone mask, revealing a taunt, leathery face beneath. She neither breathes nor blinks.] * Biff flicks and ear and makes her put it back. Hm, probably better that she keep in on, after all. [The mask sticks back in place.] I don't recognize her, do you? I got nothin, sorry. Well, aside from a new pair of hands. * Biff snickers. I'm thinking that, considering this is Wee Jas' town, we might want to get out of here if you plan on keeping her around. Probably best. We gonna leave now, or sneak out in the mornin? Now might be better, unless you think you can hide her somewhere while you go buy that spell you wanted. I can't buy it. It'd have to be Theo. I can leave town and wait for you outside, if you want. Will you be safe by yourself? Probably not, but it won't be that long. Amarette: "This one will surely be missed and I expect someone knows where she went. We need to move quickly." If I have to abandon her, I will. * Skip appears from a cloud of shadow next to Nyyx. "I think all of us need to leave tonight. Apparently, we are not welcome here." Fine. We wanna do a B and E on a scroll shop, grab some spells and run? * Skip turns to Amarette, "What did she mean by outcast? Is that like a criminal?" You heard the conversation, Skip? Amarette: "Outcast. I have been excommunicated. Of course with Wee Jas, it isn't public. They just kill you if you hang around." * Skip nods, "I've been on the roof. I don't think anyone came with her," He points to Biff's new pet, "and the streets around us are clear." Little bit of good news, that. * Nyyx nods. "We'd best go, then. They know we're with you, and I doubt we can get spells here unless we do as Biff suggested and break in." * Biff does a bit of quick spellcasting on his new pet. Why did you risk coming back here, Amarette? Amarette: "I had no idea I was excommunicated. I just found out. That is why she didn't attack from the start." She was just here to deliver the news? Amarette: "And find out what I was doing and eject me from the city, it appears." Skip, you wanna wake up Charlotte? Theo, too. Right, be right back. * Nyyx nods. * Skip scales the wall and disappears into the shadows. [After a few minutes, Skip returns with Charlotte and a rather angry fat man.] Sorry to wake you two, but we need to leave town in a hurry. Now? What happened? Turns out we're not welcome here. * Charlotte grumbles. Figures * Nyyx returns to her room, grabs her belongings quickly, and rejoins the group. Hey, no skin off our backs. Let's jet. Let's. * Nyyx heads out. Right * Charlotte grabs her stuff and goes * Biff orders his new buddy after Nyyx. * Skip scouts the route ahead using rooftops and shadows. [After several tense minutes, the party reaches the closed city gates.] Theo, can you teleport us to the other side of the gate? Theo: I can, yes. * Biff calls for the group to rally out of sight of the guards, a block or so away. * Nyyx follows Biff's signal and steps into the side street. * Biff waits for everyone to get close, then throws up a zone of silence and an invisibility sphere. [The party teleports a few miles east of the city under cover of darkness.] * Biff does a little dance. Well, that was a lot easier than I thought it might be. Thank you for that. Happy to serve. We should keep moving until nightfall. Uh, until NEXT nightfall. * Nyyx nods. "It'd probably be safer to keep moving." Yeah * Nyyx starts walking southward again. [The party proceeds southward toward the jungle in the dark.] * Biff makes his puppet dancce southward. [The party proceeds at a forced march until the next nightfall. At this point, they make camp and are exhausted with the exception of Biff and the puppet. The Puppet did not tire and Biff slept most of the way.] I'll keep watch overnight. You guys get some sleep. Thanks. Wake me up if there's any trouble. No problem. Alright, thanks. * Nyyx lays out her bedroll and promptly falls asleep on it.
