Session Start: Sat Dec 08 17:39:23 2007 Session Ident: #castlevania * Logging for #castlevania started [The intrepid party is met with a rapidly evolving situation. The city of Stavograd is collapsing in on itself while a handful of survivors attempt to escape the mayhem. To complicate matters, a foul monolithic creature has risen on the south side of the city to murder whatever it can reach.] [The only bright spots are the party itself and the mustering forces of the Seven Temples approaching from the south.] [While Biff works on the north end of town, finding and herding survivors, Theodore, Nyyx, Skip, Charlotte and Roland are within the city near the southern wall.] [Those on rooftops on the south side of town can see the monolith stomping through the city some 600' feet away.] Well, Lady Natalia? I hope you've got a plan. Plan? The only thing I can think of is to go for a weak point - its knees perhaps - to bring it down faster, or at least slow it down. I see. Well, then. We should get on that. No other ideas? I suggest spreading out somewhat. But not too far. * Nyyx nods. I need to be able to get to you to heal you. That would be much appreciated; thanks. I'll keep you going. Just... ah... try not to die too often. * Roland speaks the words of a spell, and a moment later, a soft, nonspecific glow comes out of nowhere. Stay within the light and you're in my range. Gotcha * Nyyx nods. "Understood." [The giant stomps in a nearby building and begins searching through the remains.] * Nyyx makes her way briskly toward the giant. * Charlotte moves along * Charlotte tries to keep her position hidden and looks over the thing. * Roland keeps moving along, as is signified by the heavenly glow surrounding the whole party. * Skip moves along the rooftops toward the creature. [Something in the collapsed house starts screaming. It sounds like a child.] * Charlotte darts for the collapsed house. We need to get its attention, NOW. * Charlotte pauses. "If someone can get at that house, I can try to hit it with an arrow" I don't know how much that'll grab its attention. Or how well I can hit it. Get its attention, let me worry about bystanders. Right. * Charlotte pulls out her bow and takes aim. Now? * Nyyx bellows as loudly as she can manage. "Looking for us? We killed your spawn!" * Theodore casts true strike on Charlotte [The party comes running down the street and across the rooftops. The beast looms 300' away.] NOW, Charlotte! Right! * Charlotte pulls up a second arrow and lets the two fly at the huge target a long distance away [Both arrows hit the creature and explode, sending up small storms of acid which burns the creature's hide. It stops and turns its overlarge head to look in Charlotte's direction. She can clearly see its lamplike eyes in the dust.] Looks like you got its attention. * Charlotte dangles a symbol of Pelor and waves it in the creature's general direction and grins. Nice work, Charlotte. Thanks. Now someone save that kid. * Skip nods, "I'm on it!" * Nyyx grits her teeth. "Now's not really a good time, Charlotte." I hope you're all prepared for some pain. Oh, yes. I'm expecting a lot of that. * Theodore casts haste on the party Thanks! * Roland continues forward, marking the new forward zone with his light. * Nyyx speeds on ahead, staying within Roland's light. * Skip moves ahead, staying within the light, but a good distance from his comrades. [The stony creature stands upright, dwarfing the remaining buildings. Its head swivels to keep Charlotte in sight. With a slight crouch, the creature charges forward, wrecking the cobblestones beneath its feet.] * Charlotte stands her ground, firing arrows into it as it charges. Unfortunately, they all veer off-course or bounce off of its thick hide. * Theodore casts true strike on Charlotte and then moves 50 feet toward Nyyx * Roland moves ahead, or so the light indicates, and then, strangely, he appears right in front of the gigantic elemental, looking up at it curiously. * Skip continues to run high above rooftops. He closes another 60' on the monster. [The beast continues its charge.] [The beast stomps on the illusory Roland along the way.] * Roland is squished flat beneath the elemental's feet. * Roland reaches one arm up from his squished body, grabs ahold of the scruff of his own neck, and gives himself a good, hard shake to reinflate himself. Hoo. That was quite the experience. Aaaa, Lady Natalia! Don't let him step on you. It hurts! * Nyyx charges the elemental and launches herself forward through the air, swinging hard at its knees. Her silver bastard sword cleaves clean through hard earth, tearing out great chunks as she lands. * Charlotte darts forward and fires another two arrows on the way, but neither of the shots land well * Theodore moves up 40 feet and casts Magic Missile * Roland moves up behind the giant elemental, while the globe of light moves to encompass the rest of the party. * Skip darts forward twenty feet, draws an axe out of his belt, and lets it fly. Unfortunately, his hand was slippery and the axe goes horribly off course. [The beast continues its charge. Nyyx dives out of the way as it passes. It runs right past Theodore and continues to close in on Charlotte. It is now some 60' away.] *Nyyx turns and charges the creature, landing two solid hits on the back of one leg. * Charlotte watches the charging elemental. Bearing down on her. Huge huge elemental. Then she flies straight up. Higher than its head and smiles at it, pendant waving. "Don't you think the sky is a much more fitting place for the symbol of Pelor?" * Theodore casts Magic Missile * Skip runs after the creature, leaps off of the roof, and lands on its back. He holds on for dear life. * Nyyx pivots quickly and streaks after the beast, leaping in mid-stride and chopping heavily into the back of the elemental's leg as gravity pulls her back to earth. "Don't run away, now." * Charlotte flies up a little higher and fires another two arrows straight down at the beast. * Charlotte misses. Or it bounces off its hide * Theodore casts magic missile * Roland runs after Nyyx, as does the globe of light that is the party's safety zone. * Skip holds on to the beast with one hand, and with the other takes out a handaxe. He chops away at its back, scoring several deep wounds. [The beast turns and slams Nyyx, crushing flesh and bone under dense earth.] * Nyyx rises from the ground battered and dripping blood, but that doesn't stop her from raising her sword and retaliating against the fist that struck her with two blows that send large stony chips flying from its knuckles. * Charlotte fires another pair of arrows down at the beast. About as effectively as any other arrows she fired except for that very first pair * Charlotte fires another arrow, which DOES manage to leave a mark, though * Theodore casts magic missile * Roland (the visible one) moves up next to Nyyx and lays hands on her. The visible glow dims for a moment, and a triple burst of positive energy slams into Nyyx, healing every bruise instantly. * Skip continues to hack across the beast's back. [The beast staggers under the onslaught, stumbles and begins to fall....] * Roland calls out loudly, "tiiiiiiiiiiiiimbeeeeeer!" [The creature tumbles backward, crushing Skip under itself as it dies.] Oh geez. Skip? You okay under there? You guys take care of him. i'm goign to go after that kid. * Charlotte flies/runs off for that. * Nyyx rushes over to the pile of rubble. "Skip! Are you all right?" Lady Natalia, can you get him out from under there? I'll try. [After a few seconds, Skip appears in a nearby shadow. "Wow, that hurt."] Doesn't look that bad to me. * Roland pumps a bit of positive energy into Skip. * Nyyx breathes a sigh of relief. "Well, I guess I won't have to dig, after all." * Roland sees Skip is still injured. "Wow. Worse than I thought." He pumps MORE positive vibes into the halfling. And thank you, Roland. I can certainly tell you that being smashed into the ground by a giant fist isn't my idea of fun. * Skip feels much better now. "With Roland around, I should get hurt more often. I feel great." He smiles. * Roland reappears and high fives his clone. More positive energy for everyone! Roland, which one of you...is you? As soon as Charlotte gets back with that kid, I'll pump HIM full of positive energy, too! * Roland says in unison with his clone, "We're both me." * Nyyx looks puzzled and experimentally pokes at each. * Charlotte runs back, kid in tow. Hey! Skip. Glad ot see you're alright! * Roland is real. So is his clone. Apparently. [The child is silent, but appears to have suffered only cuts and bruises.] * Roland laughs. Oh hey, I see someone in need of the healing light of Boccob. * Roland thrusts a hand out at the kid and the remaining half dozen points of light slam into him. * Charlotte puts the kid down. "The bad monster's gone now" Trying to tell us apart is an exercise in futility, Lady Natalia. After all, Boccob is a god of trickery and mischief, not just knowledge. [The wounds on the child seal up, but it remains silent.] ... hey, you okay? * Charlotte looks over the kid. [Its a short, grubby boy with brown hair and green eyes. He looks up silently.] * Nyyx looks at the kid. "What's your name?" [No answer.] Let's get him to safety. Maybe someone knows him * Nyyx nods. "I hope he's all right. I suppose he might just be shy, or in shock." I want to search the city further. There must be more people trapped or in need of help. Yeah. I'll drop him off real fast. I'll be right back to help search. * Charlotte picks up the kid again and moves. She's really quite fast. I'll take this side of the street, Lady Natalia, if you'd like to get the other? That sounds like an idea. I'll meet up with you back here when I'm done searching. * Nyyx heads off to comb through her side of the street.
