Session Start: Sat May 19 17:37:44 2007 Session Ident: #castlevania * Logging for #castlevania started [The party meets in the entryway of the Kronnenburg Church.] * Theodore checks in on Liverwurst and then returns to the inn to check on his familiar and sleep [The party turns in for rest quietly as the sun fades.] * Nyyx attends to her wounds, then retires to the inn for food and rest. [After a fitful night of rest, the party wakes around sunrise.] * Nyyx gets ready for the day and goes downstairs for breakfast. * Skip snaps upright in his bed and attempts to spring to his feet, but is so disoriented, he falls with a thud onto the cold, hard floor. Skip crashes through his door and rushes down the stairs. "Nyyx, what happened? The fight. The riders. This lump on my head." * Nyyx raises an eyebrow. "You must have passed out or something." We had to carry you back to the inn after the fight. * Nyyx tears off another piece of bread. "Graycloak and the riders were destroyed, as was Father Lucas." * Skip stands stunned at the foot of the stairs. After a dozen seconds, he forcefully exhales, walks over to the table, and sits down next to Nyyx. "So it's over then. I was just going to let him walk away, but now he's dead and it's over." He glances over at Nyyx, "How did Father Lucas die?" * Nyyx chews in silence for a moment. Shattered. Graycloak froze him, and he shattered. Letting them go wasn't really an option. The priests at the temple can bring him back, but we're going to the church today to see if he -wants- to be brought back. * Skip nods and sits in silence while Nyyx eats. * Nyyx finishes her meal. "You're not eating?" * Skip shakes his head, "No. I could use some water though. A lot, actually. My face feels like I slept face down in the dirt." * Biff comes down and hops up on the table. "You should eat while you can." Morning, Biff. Skipping a meal does nobody any good. Morning. They have any milk in this place? I would assassinate a priest for a big pitcher of milk and a barely cooked slab of beef. Innkeeper: "Just goat's milk. That work?" Good enough. Any meat? * Skip looks at Biff. "Lucas was a priest." Innkeeper: "Any Gold?" Scads. Yeah, and now he's a slab of meat. Until he gets brought back, anyway. And if he doesn't come back, that means he's having way too much fun in Pelor's realm. Not that I'd like Pelor's realm much, but I'm sure he rather likes it. Come to think of it, if he's in Pelor's realm, there's nothing wrong with the afterlife, and Gregor's a liar. I know I look forward to the Goddess' realm when I finally shuffle off. Which goddess? Cats. * Skip's eyes go wide. "What if something IS wrong with the afterlife? What if Lucas is stuck in one of those awful demiplanes?" Ah, I should've guessed. I'd tell you her name, but I don't think you speak cat. Anyway, if the afterlife -is- all screwed up, then he'll probably come back. * Nyyx shakes her head. "I don't think I do, either." You're probably right. Either way, if we get to speak with Lucas today, we can ask him. [Upon entering the church, Theodore learns that the Priestess has cast Mending and Speak with Dead on Father Lucas's remains. The spell grants no knowledge of the afterlife, but she could learn that he did not wish to be ressurected. The funeral will be at sundown.] * Theodore informs the rest of the party of the funeral plans. * Skip nods. "Thanks you, Theodore. If anyone needs me, I'll be at the blacksmith's." Skip leaves the inn and heads to Jordan's smithy. * Nyyx nods. "Thanks, Theodore." [Theodore checks up on Liverwurst to find the kobold reading quietly.] * Nyyx retrieves her cloak from the Church and cleans it as best as she can. * Skip knocks on the large wooden door to Jordan's smithy. [Jordan opens the front door. "What do you need, good sir?"] I need some new weapons. Two handaxes, the best you can make. And anything compact and lightweight worth throwing. Can you help me? Jordan: "Sure, I have a few in the back. Help yourself." * Nyyx joins Skip at the smithy when she's done doing her laundry. * Skip walks into Jordan's 'warehouse' and looks through everything he has in stock. [Skip finds the handaxes on a nearby shelf.] Hello, Jordan. How's the armor coming along? Jordan: "My part's done. It's up to the mage and the priest now." * Nyyx nods. "Thank you for your hard work." Jordan: "Of course." What're you having made? * Skip yells up to Jordan, "I'll take the two axes and a couple of these daggers. Also," he removes the long sword from his back, "what can you tell me about this? Anything special about it?" Jordan's said he could make a suit of full plate out of mithral for me. Mithral's good stuff. Where'd you find enough of it for full plate? I have no idea. He said he had enough saved up for a rainy day. * Biff whistles. Jordan: "Alright, Skip. The sword is of fine quality. Probably from a town south of here." Jordan: "Skimping and saving and from a few family heirlooms." I appreciate your sacrifice, sir. Jordan: "And I, yours." I see. You can keep it as trade. Thank you for your help. Jordan: "You are welcome." [Evening comes and the town gathers for the funeral behind the church.] [After some introductory prayers.] High Priestess: "Would anyone like to say a few words?" * Nyyx stands with her head bowed slightly, her hat held in her hands, and she says something quietly about hoping that Lucas reached the afterlife safely. * Theodore says "Father Lucas was a friend and a partner. He was often the voice of reason among competing voices in an insane place. I will always remember him as a dear friend and I shall miss him. But he gave his life protecting his flock--which meant more to him than anything--and this village. He died as he wanted to, and we should remember him for that. Goodbye friend." [The Priestess concludes the ceremony quietly and the crowd departs as she begins to fill the grave.] * Skip approaches the Priestess. "I was wondering if I could do that." Priestess: "If you need too, Skip." * Skip takes the shovel and begins to scoop in the dirt. "Thank you." He looks at the coffin. "It's the least I can do." * Nyyx takes her leave and returns to the inn. [The party retires quietly for the night and awakens in the early light of dawn.] * Biff comes down for breakfast, having healed the last of his wounds overnight, and requests his usual breakfast of milk and hot meat. * Skip descends the stairs a few minutes later and requests two helpings of biscuits, eggs, and meat. "You were right about eating. I'm starving." * Nyyx is taking a simple meal of leftover stew and bread nearby. Hey, I'll be the first to tell you. The cat is always right. Remember that and it'll make everything easier. So tell me this. What's next? Well. Are we heading back to the castle today? Is it stocked to the gills with nasty monsters and valuable treasures? Monsters, yes. Treasure, however, seems to be in limited supply. Damn. Is there a pressing reason to go back, then? Heh. I'm not sure. Gregor seems to vacillate between telling us he'll wait for us to come fight him in the tower and trying to be friends with us. I bet he's got all the treasure. He obviously doesn't necessarily safeguard the lives of his allies, either, so I can't say I'm inclined to join him. Plus, he says if we leave he'll hunt us down and kill us. Anyway, there are answers in that castle. I guess that's a treasure of sorts. And yes, Gregor has a monopoly on the answers. And the questions. I don't think I like him. Great. We have a target, we have lots of reasons to take out that target. Let's go! Er... right after breakfast. * Skip starts on his second helping. * Skip looks at Biff, "Are you gonna drink that milk?" Yes. And hands off the meat, too. * Biff tears off a chunk of meat and swallows. * Nyyx nods. * Nyyx cleans up the rest of her stew with the remainder of her bread and stands up. "Anyone seen Theodore?" Probably up late studying. He got a bunch of spells from greycloak's spellbook. * Skip talks with his mouthful. "Really? I wonder if those books say anything about the plague." That's right! We haven't taken a look at those notebooks yet. I gave 'em to Theo. Wizards are good at the whole research thing. * Nyyx nods. "I guess I'll go ask and see what he found." * Nyyx goes upstairs and knocks on Theodore's door. "Theodore?" * Theodore says "Yes?" Did you have a chance to take a look at those notebooks Biff found on Graycloak? "Some. What are you looking for?" We were just wondering if you found any useful information in them. Nothing yet. Oh, all right. Would you rather study them further before we head back to the castle? * Theodore reads through the notebooks and looks for useful information. * Nyyx leaves Theodore to his studies and lets Biff and Skip know what's going on. Well, I guess we're taking a break for the next couple of days. Not a bad idea, in light of what's happened. Great. I'm gonna go scout out those woods. Might be something important hidden in there. * Biff heads out into the woods, for great stealthing. I think I'll go train a bit. I haven't had a chance to swing around these new axes. I wonder if Liverwurst makes a good sparring partner. * Nyyx nods. "Sure. I'll see if I can help Mayor Kleppen with anything while we wait for Theodore to study and for the equipment to be readied." Don't hurt the little guy. Yeah, I'll take it slow.. [END OF SESSION] Session Close: Sat May 19 21:33:55 2007
