Reading Log

This section contains a collection of musings, rants, and other mindless blather about DN, the translations, and related-topics.

Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - I've been very busy, and needless to say, D.N.ANGEL's been sitting on my bookshelf collecting a bit of dust. I've managed to get my hands on vol. 4, though I haven't scraped up enough money to go buy vol. 5 yet. I think I'll go order that soon. In any case, vol. 4 had a lot of information on merchandise, so I've updated that. Unfortunately, translations are just going to have to wait...maybe until summer. ^^

Wednesday, July 26, 2000 - Another 8 pages translated today. I wish I could keep going, but unfortunately, I have other things in my life that are begging to be attended to. :P I added some extra info in brackets for both translator's notes necessary for the understanding of the translation, plus the "extra meanings" that can be expressed simultaneously in Japanese, but not in English. For instance, the title of the first chapter is written in kanji "Renai no Yokokujou," which means "Love's Notice," but the reading provided is "TORABURU no Yokokujou," which means "Trouble's Notice." It's the same with many terms in DN (as well as other manga), but this type of notation isn't possible in English to give double meanings, so I've included such notes in brackets all throughout the translation. Hope this clears up some confusion and adds meaning to your reading! ^_^

Monday, July 24, 2000 - Did I ever mention that Takeshi's slangy speech is somewhat challenging for me to translate? Someday, I'll go make sure with my people in Japan, but for now, the translations I provide for his speech are very rough and maybe slightly skewed. I'm just fine with "normal" Japanese, but unfortunately, my not living in Japan makes it very hard for me to understand slang. *sigh*

Also, I may have some names mixed up. I've seen Daisuke's mother referred to as "Emiko" on another website, and it is another possible and valid reading for her name kanji. (FYI - since kanji have so many readings - and they can be read even more ways when used in names - names are quite challenging to read if the furigana are not given - well, except for very common names. ^^) Another thing is Daisuke's Jii-chan. I might have been mistaken when I said his name is Kosuke, since it's possible that Kosuke is actually the name of Daisuke's mysteriously missing father. (We might be finding out about his father in the near future - it was one of the top five requests for D.N.ANGEL volume 4!) I'll be posting any changes on the main page and history page when I find out.

Friday, July 21, 2000 - I translated another 5-6 pages today. They probably won't be posted until next week, or at earliest, Sunday, since I am usually away from my computer during the weekends. In any case...I'm, er, getting addicted to translating this thing. I don't really get all that much new information the second time I read through it (for translating), but doing translations has always been a hobby of mine, so I get hooked just for the sake of translating. ^^;) I don't know at this moment if I'll be translating the Atogaki, since it's handwritten and a bit harder to read. New translations will be posted on Sunday or Monday.
